In August, we will be in this house two years. It's too long of a story for anyone who doesn't already know, but it all boils down to my mom moved out and we moved in. My mom asked that we not remove the wallpaper for a few months. It is absolutely gorgeous with her furniture. My mother has wonderful taste.
However, it's just not us. Our styles mixed together give a feeling of confusion.
Two passages in Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach inspired me to have the house reflect more of our personality.
Here are two quotes:
Your house is your home only when you feel you have jurisdiction over the space. ~Joan Kron
When friends enter a home, they sense its personality and character, the family's style of living -- these elements make a house come alive with a sense of identity, a sense of energy, enthusiasm, and warmth, declaring, "This is who we are; this is how we live." -- Ralph Lauren
Plus.....
- We've been here this long -- It will help improve my emotional state
- If my mom moves back, she'd want different wallpaper up.
- If she sells, buyers probably would prefer the neutral paint to the flower wallpaper.
I thought the main bathroom would be a perfect place to start. Our children's tropical fish accessories don't match the flower wallpaper.
It was a lot more work than I had anticipated. There were at least four layers of wallpaper and because of the humidity in the bathroom the glue hung on. Also, DH had to remove the medicine cabinet and the toilet tank to paint the area behind it.
During...
After...(taken at night...no light from the skylight so picture doesn't reflect true color, but does show...WE ARE DONE. 8-) )
We'll work on another room this weekend.
I just need to add something over the towel racks.
What, if anything, do you have on your bathroom walls? A clock? Towel rack? Pictures?
What about dipping the kids hands in paint and putting their hands all over the walls - literally!? LOL!

Hey girl!
Looks good :-) I tend to stick with just a thematic towel/shower curtain thing and skip the rest of the decor items due to the humidity issues.
